Probably the greatest rock n’ roll film ever made, and a favorite of many including John Waters. The cinematography is colorful and dazzling, and the music is unbelievable including performances by the sexy Calander Girl Julie London, Abbie Lincoln, and all time great Rock and Rollers Little Richard, Fats Domino, Gene Vincent (BeBop A Lula), Eddie Cochran, The Platters (You’ll Never Know) and many more. The film follows an ex-racketeer whose Mafia circuit has fallen, but wants his new girlfriend to be a star singer…but the problem is that she can’t sing. He makes an offer that a producer can’t refuse, and the producer has to somehow make this chick a national sensation. The girlfriend is played by the 50s knock-out Jayne Mansfield, giving a bubbly effervescent delivery.

The film was directed by the sharp Frank Tashlin, a filmmaker who never missed a chance to ridicule the star system or the commercialization of modern life. He also parodied rigid male and female sex gender roles and later would create all-out attacks on the satus quo. His cinema was a mix between a normal Hollywood film, but with surrealist/absurdist inventions. For example, Julie London unexpectedly appears as a ghost of herself sing “Cry me a River” in this film. A crazy storyline, wild characters, bizarre situations and pumped full of of the absolutely best rock bands of the 50s. Absolutely unique!
